The TechforAll Mission
Tech for All makes
available to individuals in the community the means to become skilled
and competent in computer use; we do this by gathering donations,
collecting and reconditioning used equipment, identifying qualified
recipients and placing the appropriate equipment with them solely
for their use and at no charge.

Peaks Public Library in Walsenburg, CO a project close to
the hearts of our benefactors, Steve & Reba Savageau.

Computers Adopted out - May 15, 2009 |
In
1999 Rose Keating started taking in older computers and rebuilding
them to be used by children. These computers were from individuals
and businesses that were upgrading their hardware. The children
were Junior High School age and did not have a computer.
Over the years Tech for All has been offered impressive hardware
but the donors needed a tax write-off, so those opportunities
were missed. In 2003 we began the process to become a 501-c3.
2004 was our first full year as a Not for Profit Foundation. |

| When
the computers arrive at Tech for All they range from OK to just
parts. Usually a rebuild consists of a blow out, reseating boards,
and clearing the hard drive of personal information. Sometimes
it takes two or three computers to make one working device.
This process takes 2-6 hours. |
|
The cost
of doing this is minimal. The only things that are purchased
are operating systems, mouse, keyboard, and DVD/CDRW as these
are usually worn out or not part of the given equipment. Cash
outlay is $10-$125 per machine. Rose Keating has been taking
that money out of her personal funds. We also incur Recycling
fees when we have to "junk" equipment.
Over the
past several years the libraries, in the Denver area, have
asked Rose Keating to give presentations about technology.
These classes are very popular. The libraries have a free
speaker and the public has a safe resource. The attendees
of these classes have given Rose many used PCs for her kids.
